Wonder boy!!!

Well, it was a good day finally. I think that I'm owed one every once and a while. I didn't get much coding done; I spent the day showing a new programmer the 'ropes' so to speak. It was also fairly productive in revamping some of the work that I had done to meet the spec. Not thrilling, but neccessary.

Tommorrow I begin the Design for a new application, one that handles data in the Terabyte range, so I'm pretty jazzed. I really can't discuss what it is but needless to say it'll be very significant. I hope that I know enough about large scale design, and I think that I do, to make it fly.

To Idiocy and beyond!

Ok, I knew when I requested that the service pack be applied to the application server that it would take some time but I was thinking "I don't need it right now, this doesn't go live until the middle of May and surely they'll have it in place by then." WRONG! They don't have an evaluation planned until late May, even thought I pointed to the specific issue that is resolved in the service pack, one that affects my application. Tough Cookies.

This place defies rationality!

First they refuse to migrate their code, but after they've had projects in the works using J2EE, then they refuse to patch the server to fix bugs. These guys are so conservative I'm not sure that they believe in fire... The wheel is a new fangled invention to them. I can understand a little, but when your conservative stance is clearly hurting the business that you profess to support, it's time to change!

And the fun continues...

Wow. The utilicorp saga continues.... The current rumor is that the division of Utilicorp that currently pays my salary will be outsourcing all of their web development. Due to mis-management, the group that I work for is seen as being unable to deliver on large projects. That really pisses me off, but there's nothing to do but be patient and look for another position. Even if I don't get outsourced, I think that Utilicorp is not the place for me in the long term. They are a tad too conservitive when it comes to technology. I don't want my skills to atrophy, so I need to continue on somewhere that is more agressive.

Spring break is over so my schedule has returned to normal- that is crappy- self. I'm very tired of school, and Angie is about tapped out as well. We need summer. Badly. The fall semester is in limbo until I decide what I'm going to do with myself, workwise. If I stay at Utilicorp, and they don't outsource, than it will continue on as usual. If I leave for whatever reason; I have to evaluate the options for night school- Not a pleasing prospect.

I went fishing this weekend it was very relaxing even though I wound up spending more time there than I had planned. I have a sunburn line on my forehead where it wasn't covered by my ear band and the part in my hair is also burnt. It was worth it. I still have my gear in the car just in case an emergency trip to the nearby lake is needed. :)

Congrats to Angie for doing well on her Old French test!
