The Once and Future Thing

No, not T.H. White's The Once and Future King. This is how I'm titling work. It's very political and so fluid that what was once a possibility becomes a probability and then returns to relative impossibility. By which I mean the chance that I'll get to do anything interesting any time soon. It's unfortunate and unpleasant that work is structured the way it is, but I suppose that I'll have to live with it for at least another year. We keep hoping things will get better, but nothing yet...

There was one hell of a storm last night, torrential rains, high winds the whole shebang. It was cool to watch. Angie and I aren't going to make it out onto the water this weekend, it's a tad chilly and we don't have any neoprene to protect us from the cold. We plan on acquiring some for the fall, but perhaps we'll have to do it earlier.

In my English class we started reading Lolita. It's a very interesting book; many of my classmates find it distrubing. I see it as an exteremely well crafted satire. Nabokov is making fun of contemporary (1950's) morality and American ideas of European life (Thinking in particular of Charlotte Haze.) I'm going to attempt to write a paper comparing Lolita with Invitation to a Beheading- I think. I'm doing some exploratory thinking and planning along those lines. We'll see how it goes.

Today is, for Christians, Easter Sunday. To all christians: Happy Easter.
